One Mile Challenge Kick-off Event October 3rd, 2009
One Mile Challenge Kick Off Event brings crowds of all ages to celebrate bicycle advocacy
- What
-
Harrisonburg and Rockingham County residents will gather to
celebrate the One Mile Challenge Kick Off event on Saturday
October 3rd to celebrate bicycle advocacy in our area and other
alternative forms of transportation.
Put on by New Community Project and supported by the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition and the Voluntary Gas Tax Group, the event will have a number of information tables, activities, and entertainment for people of all ages. Trent Wagler and Jay Lapp will finish up their "Steel Wheel Duo" bike music tour (having traveled over 250 miles) at our event to play music and share their experience.
We'll have Harrisonburg City Council members visiting and attendants can participate in a bike vs. car race with our very own Mayor, Kai Degner, who will also be attending to discuss the Mayor's Healthy Hometown Challenge. We'll have a multitude of activities for children and adults including basic bike safety and repair lessons, mini bike races, the slowest bike race, downtown renaissance pedestrian path display, commuter bike show, and a final decorated bike parade.
This event is taking place to kick off the One Mile Challenge Campaign to get Valley residents to work toward more sustainable and healthy forms of transportation and replace car use with bikes and other forms of alternative transport for trips a mile or less. - Where
